Cristiano Ronaldo dipilih sebagai pemain terbaik Eropah tahun ini sekaligus menerima anugerah Ballon d’Or selepas undian yang dikendalikan sebuah majalah bolasepak di Perancis berakhir, semalam. Penyerang sensasi Manchester United berasal dari Portugal itu menewaskan pemain Barcelona, Lionel Messi di tempat kedua dan Fernando Torres (Liverpool), ketiga. Ronaldo merupakan pemain keempat dari pasukan Manchester United menerima anugerah itu dan yang pertama sejak kali terakhir George Best menerimanya pada 1968.
